Anyone who has been to Alpbach knows why this picturesque village received so many prestigious
awards such as „Austria’s Most Beautiful Village“ and „Europe’s Most Beautiful Flower Village“. The
wonderful Alpine mountain backdrop, it’s situation on a sunny plateau, the well cared-for houses in
the typical Alpbach building style and the fact that the locals are true to their culture and traditions
are the main elements, which shape Alpbach, the congress mountain village, and make it so
special. The Congress Centre represents a masterpiece of design, ambience, functionality and
modern conference technology. So as to blend in with the homogenous architectural style the
building was built into the slope and features a glass façade and central glass cone. This way the
use of energy is optimised and the impact on nature was kept at a minimum. The halls and
seminary rooms have natural lighting and are equipped with modern technology; the view from
the terrace over the village and the surrounding meadows is unique.
These optimum conditions formed the base for the development of a Green Meeting Standard in
Alpbach, which is consistently implemented during the European Forum Alpbach.
The European Forum Alpbach with its 4.000 participants from over 60 countries ranks amongst the
leading conferences in economics, politics, science and the arts. During the annual event, which
lasts for 17 days, great attention is given to sustainability in the following sectors: arrival logistics
and travel with public transport, green event management, procurement and waste management,
green IT, green catering and the optimisation of energy consumption in the Alpbach Congress
Centre.
With a total of 1.585m² the Alpbach Congress Centre offers a plenary hall, which can
accommodate 500 people, two bright reception areas and five seminar rooms for 35 to 195
people. The sophisticated local hotel industry and gastronomy, the numerous supporting
programmes and the vicinity to Innsbruck and Munich airport are contributory factors in the
additional success of this Tyrolean conference village.
