Alpbach Congress Centre
The Alpbach Congress Centre, with its 2,200 square metres of floor space, is a fine example of the harmony that can be achieved with a refreshing combination of traditional and modern elements in contemporary architecture. With most of the structure embedded in the mountain slope, the design of the building represents a clear commitment to today's spirit of respect for the natural environment, combining the aesthetic benefits of a truly small footprint with meaningful advantages in energy savings. The main architectural feature is a spiral-shaped gallery with floor-to-ceiling glazing.
The architecture
The conference halls and seminar rooms are laid out on two levels, with the central foyer as the direct link for easy orientation and effective communication. The fully-glazed spiral connecting the two levels also provides splendid views of Alpbach and the surroundings. The plenary hall has a continuous strip of glazing at ceiling level that reveals a backcloth of soaring mountain peaks and gives attendees a first-hand impression of the rare atmosphere of this world-famous Tyrolean alpine village.
